More information about the BLT

All Seattle public schools must have a BLT, but each site has some latitude on membership, bylaws and other aspects. The WMS BLT is an advisory, decision-making group that, under new bylaws approved in November 2018, brings the Principal together with nine staff representatives, five WMS parents or guardians, two representatives of community partner organizations, and two current WMS students. The group meets before school on Thursday mornings, once or twice a month. The BLT is responsible for drafting, revising, shaping and approving the following:

    • Decision-Making Matrix
      • (Who makes what decisions at WMS)
      Staff Professional Development
      • (Areas of focus for WMS staff to learn and grow in)
      Continuous School Improvement Plan
      • (Goal-setting, and strategies to reach these goals concerning academic achievement and school climate)
      Discretionary Budget
      • (Use of discretionary funds … positions, stipends, supplies, etc.)
