Dear WMS Community,
We write to you today in sadness and outrage about our country’s shameful and continuing racial violence and injustice. We condemn the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, among many others, and the fact that Black and Brown families are forced to live and raise their children with the reality of racially motivated violence and injustice. While this hurts all of us, only some of us have to worry that we or our children will be targeted for the color of our skin. We stand in solidarity with Black and Brown families in demanding change.
As Washington families, you are part of a community that cares about fighting racial injustice, and cares about your students and your family. We must work together to fight systemic injustice, including within our school and school system. We call on white families in particular, and ourselves organizationally, to identify anti-racist actions to take today. The resources recently shared by Superintendent Juneau are a good place to start, but our collective efforts must continue to build. We are committed to continuing this conversation and work with the entire WMS community. We invite all families to reach out to us at info@wmsptsa.com with thoughts, questions, or to join us.
Sincerely,
